Medical Records Scanning
Healthcare organizations strive to offer top quality care to patients. Their key challenge is to provide medical staff with convenient, on-demand and cost-efficient access to pa-tient medical records. Hospital Information Systems (HIS) cannot fully address this chal-lenge if there is a backlog of medical records in paper format. These paper records, which are extremely costly to store and retrieve, need to be incorporated into the HIS to provide a unified view of each patient.
Solution Eliminate your dependency on paper records, physical storage and retrieval costs. You can go paperless on Day 1, allowing your staff to access complete electronic medical records (EMR) for each patient with a press of a button and focus on what they do best – take care of patients. With iGuana iDM Medical Records Scanning Solution you can go paperless on Day 1. Backlog – Old Medical Records Scanning Scanning hundreds of thousands of patient files requires proper planning. Archiving medical records from A to Z is an example of improper planning that can cost you time and money. To address this issue, iGuana iDM integrates with your appointment scheduling system and informs you which patient files should be scanned first. Regardless of the backlog, from a day-to-day operations perspective you are essentially paperless.
Medical records, as well as their contents, are scanned into iGuana iDM, indexed and classified within the software, creating a logical tree structure for each record. Specialized scanners are provided as part of the overall solution (up to 50,000 pages pear day each). Once scanned files pass thorough quality control, their paper equivalents are stored away or securely destroyed. Location details of paper records in your storage facility are maintained in iGuana iDM for easy retrieval upon request. Daily Scanning – New Medical Documents You may have new patient related documents that need to be scanned on a daily basis, such as documents associated with newly admitted patients. These new documents can be scanned directly into iGuana iDM and automatically classified within the patient medical record in question. Integration with HIS iGuana iDM-HIS integration provides your organization with a unified view of each patient’s medical record from one central access point – your HIS. This means that any given medical record archived in iGuana iDM is available for viewing by staff as part of one, unified patient EMR in your HIS. Integration also makes it possible to go paperless on Day 1 without any disruption to your day-to-day operations.
iGuana iDM has been successfully integrated with major HIS. It communicates with your HIS using an embedded HL7 communication protocol, providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing and retrieval of electronic health information.
